Summer Institute: Educational Excellence Conference

Focus on Dropout Prevention July 30 and 31

Agenda:  

Registration 8:00 AM -8:30PM

Keynote and Breakout Sessions 8:30-4:15 PM

Description: Nationally Recognized Keynote Speaker, Dr. Michael Shackleford is an experienced classroom teacher, administrator, curriculum designer, educational consultant and conference presenter. His research centers on the classroom use of problem-based learning. Dr. Shackleford specializes in the research and application of differentiated instructional practices as well as the characteristics of effective schools, teachers, and instructional strategies.

Breakout Sessions for the two day conference will include: Literacy, Mathematics, Response to Intervention (RTI), Kentucky Alternate Assessment, Structured Teaching, Instructional Technology, Differentiated Instruction, Grant Writing, Complete Paraprofessional Training, Oral Motor, Handwriting, Drop Out Prevention, IDEA 2004, Encyclomedia, Electronic Text, and several other topics that are currently being confirmed.

Assistive Technology Workshop: RJ Cooper Road Trip, August 28, 2008

Date & Time: 08/28/2008 08:00 AM - 03:30 PM

Description: RJ Cooper will be working individually with selected students with a variety of disabilities and assistive technology needs. He will evaluate and determine the optimal means of accessing each student’s learning environment. RJ uses a “hands on” approach and will demonstrate strategies, hardware and software adaptations that teachers, therapists and caregivers may be able to incorporate into the daily routines. His goal is to have the students do something new and exciting, not done before. It might be increasing attending and time-on-task significantly, using a switch in a completely new position, or a breakthrough to using pictures as communication tools.
